Happy Halloween

I did a quick sketch of Frankenstein years ago and thought it was time to do a painting. Boris Karloff's version is probably the most celebrated. This 5" X 7" painting was done using black, white, and orange gouache. It's a tricky medium to paint with, but offers some great possibilities. Have a great Halloween.

Another Company of Military Historians Project

This is the latest painting project done up last month. It will be in a future volume of the Journal published by the Company of Military Historians. The subject is the 1st Louisiana ( Federal )  Native Guards. The text is written by noted historian Rene Chartrand. There was limited time in which to get this project done and I was happy to finish with a few days to spare. The painting was done in acrylic on multimedia board.

Figure studies for Company of Military Historians article

Ever since I was a kid I wanted to do some illustrations for the Company of Military Historians journals or it's Military Uniforms in America Plate series. I offered to do some figure studies for an author that was working on an article for the journal. Hopefully publication of the article will send other authors my way seeking to add a bit of color to their articles.

Sketchbook

In addition to working on a few painting I also started filling up a few sketchbooks. One is historical subjects while the other one are non historical ( for the most part ) in nature. I recently completed this drawing of Edgar Allen Poe, along with a few quotes. A few color studies and more sketchbook pages are on the way.
